A virtual exhibition with experimental maps of a practice in decolonizing cartography that creates exploratory mappings by sourcing lessons and information from people's stories, lived experiences and sensations. Interviewing people to honor their experiences through the quarantine and uprisings, I've used my sensory maps to archive stories, lessons, memories and sensations from these intimate conversations-creating visual representations of the world each person inspires in me and as examples of the lessons we all inspire in those among us that create our worlds each day.
What do we learn from exploring ourselves? What do we learn from listening to each other? What information can we archive and build new worlds with when sourcing the people and not oppressive systems?
Each person also offered a direct resource that has been meaningful for them during this time.
This show is opening Saturday, August 22, at 8:30pm, the exact time and date of my birth to honor all of the people's stories who have inspired the person I've become.
